EPISODE 1 : THE BEGINNING OF SOMETHING

The idea of a podcast came out of the idea of writing a book. I wanted to write something autobiographical, and yet, musically educational. I didn't know how to marry these ideas. then the idea of a podcast came. I could do the same thing through an audio outlet. It's the beginning of something. no kidding. The idea, literally, was for this to be a mix of an audio journal, a music blog, and a podcast wrapped into one thing. Hope you all like!

EPISODE 2 : SOPHOMORE BLUES

A lot of bands that start off with a hit album complain about the "Sophomore Curse". They say you have all of your life to write and record your first album, and about a year and a half to write and record your second. The first podcast went pretty smoothly. Therefore, I figured it best to see that once the car was started, that it would drive. The freedom of music choice, subject matter, and comforts of home made it sensible to do another podcast.

EPISODE 3 : I JUST SWITCHED TO SANKA, SO, HAVE A HEART?

The "morning" episode! I thought it would be fun to wake up early and get wired as hell on coffee. This episode, certainly, has a different tone. I love that it came out the way it did. It may sound best while cooking breakfast!

EPISODE 4 : HOW DOES IT FEEL?

For my Mom. I'd been staying at the hospital with her a bit, and she was out and feeling a little better. She was the reason for the first few songs, as you'll hear. I, also, love how there are several different genres represented here. I listen to so many things. It's always fun to share. Oh! I play Hendrix's version of "Like A Rolling Stone" from The Monterey Pop Festival. Hell yes. It's the first time I played Rick Nelson, too. I am sure I will play more of him. I love his body of work. He's a great and under-appreciated artist. 'All I Need" by Radiohead kills me, too.

Listen to the episode

EPISODE 5 : CAN'T KICK THIS HABIT

Cinco! Rule #1: ANY TIME you can start something by playing Steve Martin, DO IT! Courtney Barnett had one of the best albums out. It got nominated for a Grammy. I don't think she won, but I played something from it. It's a killer record. Elvis, Townes Van Zandt, Slayed, and my friend, Brian Whelan gets a little time, as well. Vodka was represented in the background, as well. Ha!

Listen to the episode

EPISODE 6 : ANOTHER BEATLE GONE

I had just purchased the original 45 of "Bermuda" by Roky Erickson. He is one of my favorite Texas artists. I was excited to play that. I had been very bummed about the passing of George Martin, and my friend, Whitney, came over and hung out while I did this episode. It marks the first time anyone participated or was part of the podcast apart from me. The "3 Little Pigs" track cracks me up every time.

EPISODE 7 : HOUSTON, PROUD!

This is sort of a tribute to Houston, Texas. I love my city. I realized that the anniversary of my move to Houston was coming up. I just had to embrace that on the podcast. Houston is an interesting city. No zoning laws or anything. There are old buildings and homes next to brand new high rises and complexes. Which, actually, I think gives a personality to the city. GO OILERS!

EPISODE 8 : THE 8TH WANDER

This episode opens with a 78 record! It certainly illustrates my love, knowledge, and passion for the work of Elvis Presley! My nephew gets his debut as a passionate lover of music! He's 4 years old, and has been exposed to Guided By Voices, thanks to my brother. Very proud of this episode. I'm proud of all of them. But this felt so natural. I hope they all feel this way from now on.

EPISODE 9 : PRINCE VALLIANT EFFORT

2016 has shaped up to be such a really sad year for the music industry. It's been difficult for music fans watch to many great artists go. It seems like since January, which is when I started this podcast, I've been talking about great musicians passing. Episode 1 was the week David Bowie died. Merle Haggard was another huge blow. I had a chance to share some music from Young Girls! GREAT Houston band! Plenty of "Mod" fun... Sugar is a great band. "Tangerine" is ode to a girl that has occupied some of my time. Bill Hicks makes a hysterical introduction to an amazing Jimi Hendrix performance. DJ Shadow makes an appearance. This podcast ends with a breath-taking lullaby.Leave comments!

EPISODE 10 : FOR DEMONSTRATION ONLY, NOT FOR SALE (PART 1)

Here we go again, kids! I am very excited to present this idea to anyone who listens! This idea began as a guy playing his demo collection, and then took on a life of its own. By going through these recordings, I realized how much I know about these recordings. While getting this podcast together, I realized that a "Part 2" would be necessary. I got really lost and excited about this. Here is the first installment. This podcast continues to challenge me in terms of "diving" into my music collection. I'm sure it always will. So happy to share this. Take it deep.

EPISODE 11 : FOR DEMONSTRATION ONLY, NOT FOR SALE (PART 2)

Welp! I had a great time bringing you all the second installment of my exploration of demo recordings! A huge thank you to Mike Stinson and Kevin Russell (Shinyribs) for their contributions to both podcasts focused on demos. That was a very kind gesture. I hope the listener enjoys both #10 AND #11! They were both a lot of fun to make. Sometimes I don't realize how much music I have. I'm glad that this podcast exists... It gives me a reason for having such a record collection! Ha! Feel free to leave comments on the site. I'd love to hear what you guys think... Anyhow... Episode 12 will be coming soon...

EPISODE 12 : FOR EVERY HANK WILLIAMS RAILROAD, A TRAIN HAS CRIED: AN ODE TO "ALMERS"

The records just keep on a' spinnin'! This episode is back to the more relaxed form of its typical existence. It is also, an ode to my father. Recorded on Father's Day, 2016. I had a lot of fun sharing stories of the "Old Pro", as my brother and I call him. This podcast wouldn't exist without his passion for music early in his life, and sharing it early in mine. He's always loved Almond Joy candy bars. Therefore in high school, his friends nicknamed him "Almers"... They called another friend, "Nuts"... My dad has always been one for nicknames. EVERYONE has one. Jesus. Anyhow, lots of great music shared here, I believe. Mostly what has been on my turntable or CD player as of late. I hope you continue to dig it. Thanks for coming back. Comments always welcome. Until the next one...

EPISODE 13 : IF IT WASN'T FOR BAD LUCK, I WOULDN'T HAVE NO LUCK AT ALL...

Honestly, I don't know if anyone even reads these. However, I'm gonna continue to write them. They say that 13 is the most unlucky of numbers. (Is that an American thing? I'm not sure.) Anyhow, I had a great time doing this one. It's amazing, you start realizing what music you go back to, even after you've heard it so many times. Even beyond the "13" theme, I was so happy to share so many things I've known for so long that I've been listening to lately. Robert Johnson, The Neville Brothers, Social Distortion, and a couple of my favorite recordings by Elvis Presley, which would have never turned out the way they did without the late Scotty Moore. I dabble in patriotism, tell another story about my Dad and a neighbor. A good time was had by me. Hope you guys enjoy. I'd also like to encourage you all to leave comments on the website. I never know who's listening, or gives a shit. Ha! See you at the 14th!

EPISODE 14 : SCRATCHY NEEDLE ON A PHONOGRAPH RECORD

The title of episode #14 is from a short story written by J.D. Salinger. It was loosely based on the life of Bessie Smith. Published in September of 1948, Salinger trusted Cosmopolitan to print it with no editing. While the publication didn't edit the story, they changed the title to "Blue Melody". Salinger was so angry that he swore to never publish his works in any other publication besides the New Yorker.

The tone of this podcast varies. It continues to illustrate the width of my musical tastes. Recorded at such a fertile time, the music seems to reflect that. The France attacks had occurred the night before. The U.S. shootings are still in the culture and raw as they seem to have just happened. Some of the music deals with change. However, there is plenty of stuff played that I've just been listening to lately. Curtis Mayfield, Pavement, Magazine, etc... This is where I've been. #15 will be soon, as well. Feel free to leave comments. Thanks for spending time with me and my record collection!

EPISODE 15 : PICK ANY CARD AND SHOW IT TO THE AUDIENCE

Well, sometimes it takes me a while to follow up podcasts, and sometimes I have the free time to get one done in a closer time frame from the last. I had some records out, and decided to fire up #15 for ya. I was so glad to rattle my neighbors with these music selections! Neil Young & Crazy Horse, De La Soul, Toussaint McCall, etc... It's all here, kids! Hit play and see how it makes you feel! I had a good time recording it, and I hope you all have a good time listening to it! Hope you all are well!

EPISODE 16 : NO REGARD FOR ANY NOISE ORDINANCE: THE SPIRIT OF MARTHA E. SORRELL

I've been thinking a lot about my family lately. My aunt Martha, my "Nan", is never far from my thoughts. At a time when I was young and would get in trouble for getting into my Dad's records, she embraced me getting into her records and playing them. My father's always been encouraging, too. However, she really loved it when my brother and I played her records and danced, and sang. My family, on whole, was always encouraging with our up-bringing around music. I was fortunate in that way. My brother is 7 years older than me. Therefore, he turned me on to Kiss, The Ramones, R.E.M., Soundgarden, etc... I've been waxing "philosophical" about these things lately. Ha! I hope it shines through on this episode! I had a ball doing this one. I had the volume LOUD! Dig it! Chuck Berry, The Replacements, Loudon Wainwright III, Iron and Wine/Calexico, and even the voice of Albert Camus reading from one of his masterpieces. Lucky you! See ya deep in #17! Leave comments!

EPISODE 17 : SOUNDTRACK TO AN UNMADE FILM

Well, here we are again. I've been really playing a lot of music around the house and in the car. The idea of music in film has been on my mind. I've been watching a lot of films. I have been pining on the idea of the role of music in movies or T.V. Shows... and how those songs get picked, and who picks them! Therefore, I thought I'd share some tracks that sound a bit "cinematic" in tone... Hope you enjoy it.

EPISODE 18 : HOPE FOR COMPASSION AND HUMOR IN A CRUEL WORLD FILLED WITH CURVE BALLS; MARIUS BANNISTER LIVES!

The challenge of bringing something fresh to this podcast is really inspiring and has become a breath of fresh air. I've been really listening a lot of Gospel and up-lifting kind of stuff. Some of it, certainly, intense in nature. However, it's a lot of music that isn't full of crap. There is a substance and purpose. I sound like a speech writer. Blah! Ha! I, truly, enjoyed doing this podcast. The underlying message is for hope regarding a negative and bitter culture. I tried to illustrate and focus on acts of kindness and love, as apposed to focusing on all things frustrating and difficult to digest. i hope you all enjoy! Thanks for all the support and comments! Appearances by The Postal Service, Midnight Oil, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Crystals, The Minders, Dwight Yoakam, Henry Rollins, J.F.K., etc...

EPISODE 19 : PRESS PLAY AND A REPRESENTATIVE WILL BE WITH YOU SHORTLY

The beauty of this podcast, is that I never know exactly when I might have the time to throw one together. I try to do one a week (at least)... I had a day off, and said, "I bet the people miss me. I'll share music with them and try to brighten their day." Arrogance can carry you very far. 19 episodes far. Ha! I hope you enjoy! Voice of The Beehive, R.E.M., Old 97's, Slaid Cleaves, John Lennon, and Brenda Lee all make appearances, as well as much more. Press play! Then comment! Talk soon!

EPISODE 20 : THE CAMPAIGN TO BRING BACK "JIVE TURKEY"  (PART 1)

It's funny; I've been playing, mostly, black music on the radio for the better part of 20 years. Delta Blues, Chicago Blues, Soul, R&B, Gospel, etc... I grew up to that music. However, there was also black music that I grew up to that doesn't fit in with my radio program. That is what I'm hoping to expose here. The 1970's brought with it, MANY great artists and songs in R&B, Soul, Funk, etc... It was an era worth focusing on. I hope you feel the same. Get your groove on!

Listen to the episode

EPISODE 21 : THE CAMPAIGN TO BRING BACK "JIVE TURKEY"  (PART 2)

Two podcasts in one day? I'm as surprised as you are! The premise desired a second part to this podcast. I just have too much music, and things that I wanted to fit in here... During these podcasts, I was so glad to exhibit classic hit soul tracks along with "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised", by Gil Scott-Heron, "Fame", by David Bowie (Might be the first Bowie track played since Episode #1... This era of music really made an impression on me, and continues to be source of musical inspiration. The Stylistics, The Dramatics, Lou Rawls, and even the Bee Gees just blow my mind. I, sincerely, hope you enjoy. See you on 22!

EPISODE 22 : JULIE RICHMOND KNOWS MY SIGN

It is nice to get back to the messy/all over the place kind of podcast that I love doing. I really loved and enjoyed the last couple of installments focused on 70's Soul, Funk, & Pop Music. However, I listen to so many types of music, and I adore the opportunity to share with you all kinds of shit. 'Cause that is what I listen to. There was a lot of ground to cover here. I think I covered it... Feel free to leave comments here on the site. I love feedback on what you guys relate to, and what you may not. I'd like this thing to become a dialogue; Not just a monologue. Ha! Henry Thomas, The 88, The Beach Boys, Willis Alan Ramsey, Quasi, Spicoli, Guru, and a lot of my voice... all represented here. Hope you all enjoy! See you all on #23!

Well, here we find ourselves together again! Thank goodness. I've just gotten back from a Birthday trip to Los Angeles to see my brother. Bill Burr, Mark Dinning, and many others make an appearance. The passing of Leonard Cohen gets a mention and a song in his honor... What an immense talent to leave us at 82. After such a long trip and all, this episode felt like riding a bike. I really enjoyed it. I Hope you do, as well.

EPISODE 27 : TABLE 27, YOUR PODCAST IS READY

Recorded live inside my apartment, this podcast has reached 27 episodes! It is crazy to me that I've not run out of music and/or things to talk about. I'm sure there will never be a lack of material. Especially at the rate I buy records and form opinions. I've been listening to a wide array of music lately. Lots of Coltrane, Old 45's, and the new Radiohead album. Jack Kerouac makes an appearance in this episode. Also look out for Jimmy Dean, Little Brother Montgomery, The Zeros, and Randy Newman, as well... A craft beer discussion comes up, too. Feel free to leave comments. Enjoy!

EPISODE 28 : A DIM BULB SHINING ON THE BRIGHT LIGHT OF POSSIBILITY

I've had a little more time on my hands lately than usual. I try to do these podcasts when I have down time, although I do make time for them when it's time to do one. I've found it to be a great outlet. I listen to so much music, and it's nice to have it fresh in my mind to share here. I talk about the sad loss of the great Sharon Jones, play some Circle Jerks, Nirvana makes their first appearance on the podcast, as well as classic tunes by Bobby Darin, Jimmie Rogers, and The Cure. Along with so much else. Can you believe I mix all those artists together? It even reads weird!

EPISODE 29 : THE VIEW OF A STORM FROM A DIFFERENT LENS

The month of December falls upon us! This podcast was recorded live in my apartment, as all are, after a late work night. There were storms in the Harris County area, and it rained outside the window where I was cuing up records, cd's, etc... With the holidays officially underway, I do play a few little fun nuggets. Bowie and Bing, Bo Carter, Tody Castillo, The Union, The Beatles, The Bad Livers, and even one of the greatest Georgia born vocalists to ever record in Memphis makes an appearance with a story to boot. More to come with the cold, passing months. Feel free to leave feedback here on the website.

Spreading holiday cheer is just second nature to me. I figured a little more "Season's Greetings" could be in order. This was fun to do. It's so nice to play holiday music that's not genre specific! Digging into the archives is so much fun to do for these podcasts! I hope you all are enjoying your holiday season. Appearances from Andrew "Dice" Clay, Tom Waits, The Pixies, Pearl Jam, Don Gibson, and even a kind word from our good friend, Fat Tony! EPISODE 33 : ADJUST THE RABBIT EARS... LISTEN TO MORE T.V.
(PART 2)

...My focus on great television performances continues on this episode. As much work and research as this premise has been to bring to the podcast, it's been a lot of fun in terms of documenting when, exactly, many of these performances were filmed. A young Willie Nelson makes an appearance, as well as a couple of Seattle's best bands. There is a little talk of football and the head coach of Houston's beloved Texans team. David Letterman introduces a new band from Athens, Georgia in 1983. Bob Dylan and Tom Waits also make appearances. Feel free to leave comments. Hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did doing it.

EPISODE 34 : ADJUST THE RABBIT EARS... LISTEN TO MORE T.V.
(PART 3)

Well, kids... here we meet the final installment of my homage to great television performances. I have to admit, it was probably the most work I've done on a series of podcasts. However, it was SO worth it. I enjoy learning and sharing these things. The Bee Gees make an appearance on The Midnight Special, P.J. Harvey performs on 120 Minutes, Sir Douglas Quintet on Playboy After Dark, Conan O'Brien's class shines through, The White Stripes, and a special tribute to one of the greatest minds to ever come from Houston, thanks to David Letterman. EPISODE 36 : JIMMY DUGAN. A GREAT CHILD, A GREAT ATHLETE, AND GREAT HUMAN BEING

Cold weather is motivating only when you do a podcast in doors while cranking the heat, burning incense, and drinking screwdrivers. Lots to take in on this episode. One of my favorite songs of all-time gets a spin. Aaron Neville brings it. We also hear from Sugar, Tommy James & The Shondells, Bo Diddley, World Party, Link Wray, The Jayhawks, and more... Gearing up for the Super Bowl here in Houston, and there is a bit of talk on that. A pink lion ushers in the episode, and a great guitar player from on of the best bands to ever come out of Dallas ushers us out!

EPISODE 44 : THE UMPIRE STRIKES BACK!

It's been a little while, friends. I do apologize. I could say I like to be fashionably late, or, that I like to keep you in suspense, however, the truth is that my ass just got sick for a little while. However, I made it through, and I'm feeling much better. I hope I wasn't rusty on this episode. I thoroughly enjoyed doing it. I was inspired, in part, by "Star Wars Day"... May the 4th be with you... I tried to mix it up a bit with a few recognizable tracks, as well as things that are a bit deeper. EPISODE 46 : A LOST SOUL AND SON OF SEATTLE: THE LANGUAGE OF MUSIC

This was a tough one. It's difficult to see a still-vital artist shove off this mortal coil. The first bit of this episode is a tribute to the late Chris Cornell and his great body of work. I've been a fan of his and most of his bands since I was very young. I never thought he'd not only go so young, but in the manner that he did. There is much more along side his tribute here. An Edgar Allan Poe poem, Hank Williams, Spoon, Roxy Music, Sufjan Stevens, Bill Parsons, The Rolling Stones, T.K. Hulin, and more. Including my rhetoric and all, as well! EPISODE 48 : I WALKED ALL NIGHT LONG

It is always a pleasure and an honor to put these podcasts together. The fact that you all listen and support it through these 48 episodes speaks volumes about what my time of labor means to you all, as well. This episode is fairly packed with so many different kinds of things. Tragedy, humor, poetry, opinions, and of course, the music. Lawrence Ferlinghetti begins episode #48. There are also appearances by Robyn Hitchcock & The Egyptians, Sham 69, Mike Stinson, The Boogie Kings, X, Old 97's, The Strawberry Alarm Clock, Dom Irerra, Willie Nelson, and many others. My living room still sounds like home to me. Enjoy.

EPISODE 49 : 1963

This is a "themed" episode of the podcast. Sometimes I get an idea in my head, and it won't go away until I embrace it. As I mention on the podcast, the subject of the Kennedy assassination and the year 1963 has been coming up with a few friends. The more I'd thought about it, I was intrigued by not only the music I know and own from that year, but how much of a transitional year '63 was in American culture. Malcolm X, John F. Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Muhammad Ali, the march on Washington, the civil rights struggle, protests beginning to happen regarding so many injustices in our country... Then there was the soundtrack to all of this. This is an exploration into a year of shock, innocence, pride, and so many other things. It seemed like 1963 was a year where we thought things would always stay the same in many ways, meanwhile, things started changing around us without us even noticing. We would acknowledge many changes in the coming years, but I think it started here. It was kind of a "sleeper" year of sorts. I hope you all enjoy hearing what 1963 sounded like. This episode is dedicated to Steve-O "The Nightrider", Robert "X" Brown, Murry The "K", John R., Wolfman Jack, Dick Bartley, Alan Freed, Cousin Brucie, Dewey Phillips, Bob Ferguson, Rodney Binginheimer, Phillip, Glenn, and Freddie Broussard, and so many other DJ's and lovers of different eras of music.

I have to be honest. I never thought that this thing would hold anyone's attention past 20 episodes. Even MINE! I'm so glad, however, that this podcast has seemingly taken on a life of its own and challenged me both personally, and musically. It's been such a gift to share so much with you, the listener for 50 episodes! Wow! I tackle subjects such as tropical storms, my favorite album, and the upside of being ill. The soundtrack to these ramblings are furnished by Zager & Evans, Sonic Youth, Jimi Hendrix, The Browns, Rose Melberg, Monty Python, The Four Coins, and even our friend, Brian Whelan. There is more packed in, of course. So... light some incense, take your shoes off, turn up the volume, and come hang in my living room once again for #50 of the A Day In The Life Podcast! Houston Proud!

Who is J. Frank Muggs? Well, he was a chimpanzee that was featured on the "Today" show on NBC from 1953-'57. In those days, Dave Garroway was a staple on that show. EPISODE 59 : HARVEY

Of all of the episodes that I've done of this podcast, this one not only meant a lot to me, but seemed like a moment in Houston to seize and comment on. It also, happens to reflect "a day" in all of our lives here in the 4th largest city in America. This podcast is my attempt at brightening a dimly lit situation. Hurricane season is always a strange time for anyone that lives along the Gulf Coast. All of the music featured here involves themes of wind, storm, rain, flooding, and adversity... I hope you all enjoy 78 minutes of time away from the weather and craziness. Peter Gabriel, Los Lobos, The Grateful Dead, The Champagne Brothers, Carole King, Johnny Cash, Counting Crows, and Houston blues legend Sam "Lightnin'" Hopkins all make musical appearances here. Keep your heads up, and stay dry. I'm thinking of all affected by this devastating weather.

EPISODE 61 : PLEASE RISE AS THE SEARCH FOR SOMETHING CONTINUES

Have you ever watched and followed a show on TV where in between seasons they take a year and a half to two years off to film the new season? Well, it didn't take me over a year to record this episode, but a lot of times with those shows, they'd pick up from the current time and not fill in or explain what happened in between the seasons. I tried my best not to do that. I gave a short "Cliff's Notes" version of my mysterious disappearance. Health issues are the long and short of it. I've been so anxious to get back to the podcast. This is such a personal and important thing to me. I created it out of thin air from a grass roots level, and I am proud of what I've been able to do with it. I've always said, it's a mix of a podcast, an audio journal, and a music blog. I'm trying to keep that mission statement at the core of the episodes. There was a lot to cover here, and I did my best without talking too terribly much. I speak about the biggest loss I've experienced in my life thus far, radio in Austin, TX circa early/mid 1990's, and even memories of some great shows I got to witness over the years. Musically on the menu, we have The Rayvonettes, Alexander "Skip" Spence, Nancy Sinatra, Pavement, Josh Rouse, Jim Reeves, The Bobs, and even a double shot of Willie Nelson. By that, the title of the Magazine track I play is “The Great Man’s Secrets”. I got chatty and forgot to mention the song title. I’m a bonehead. I hope it sounds like there was no beat missed and I've been able to carry on in the vein of what came before. You can email the podcast at adayinthelifepodcast@gmail.com! From this point on, the episodes shall be frequent and free to stream! It's great to see you all again! Episode #61! Dig It, Y'all!

EPISODE 62 : PLEASE REMAIN STANDING… AND NO KNEELING

Two episodes in one week? Yes, people. Two episodes in one week. It was my original intention to have two posted at one time, but it just fell together this way. If nothing else, it will give you guys Something To Du. It's funny, here it took me a while to jump back on the horse, and as I say in this episode, I'm already coming up with ideas for things I'd like to do soon here. It's such a nice thing to be back doing this. I really missed it. It sorta feels like a missing piece of a familiar puzzle has been placed. There's a lot happening here. There is a couple of nods to Canada. One set dedicated to one of its most celebrated bands in the country's history... And for good reason. Neil Young reaches out to his deceased Mom, Doo-Wop goes Rock Steady, Lefty Frizzell reminds us of the impact and influence he had on damn near every country singer that came after him (along with Hank Williams, of course...). Even without a deck of cards, you get a pair of Kings, the Love and Hatred concerning the Rock 'N Roll, Fat Tony representing 3rd Ward, What I consider to be the most important recording in music history. It happened in 1928, and changed everything. A true landmark. Talks of buying Halloween Candy from a clerk without a brain, encouragement to turn your living room upside down, Grant Hart wrote great songs, and more! Let us know you stream us by emailing adayinthelifepodcast@gmail.com. See you guys on the other side of the coin. I'm sure it will be soon.

EPISODE 63 : EXCURSIONS ON A WOBBLY RAIL

The title of this podcast is taken from a Cecil Taylor track recorded in June of 1958. It was also the title of Lou Reed's college radio show at Syracuse University. There is a lot to hear in this episode. A week's worth of songs begins the endeavor. Also included are New York Dolls, Kendrick Lamar, Hal Blaine, Hank Williams, XTC, Alejandro Escovedo, Aaron Neville, and much more. Our landing on Mars gets a nod, as well as a 78 RPM of "Jesus Loves Me"... Episode #63 was, yet, another pleasure. I wound up recording #64 right after... Thanks to all of you for the support and kindness!

EPISODE 64 : PLEASE RISE AS THE SEARCH FOR SOMETHING CONTINUES

A continuance of my evening filled with records and stories that go nowhere. Who is Charles Thompson? The importance of family during the holidays. Companies may have your number! Not only to call you, but for use to call others... Musically, this episode brings the sounds of The Triumphs, Led Zeppelin, Kings Versus, The Smiths, The Meters, They Might Be Giants, Calvin Bostick, Old 97's, The Vogues, Love, and much more. Happy Holidays to all of you! I hope the episodes stay a bit fresh and amusingly educational and fun. I like the idea that these things are all over the place. However, I try to make the diversity work. We are on Twitter! Look for A Day In The Life Podcast!

EPISODE 65 : FACE TIMING WITH SANTA

A podcast on Christmas Eve? Well, I've done my shopping, so why not spin some records in the living room with you kind folks? Happy Holidays, all! This was a fun episode. I think they all are fun, or they're fun for me, anyway. This episode reeks of holiday cheer and eggnog. It's not all Christmas stuff, but there is a presence for sure. What to look out for here? Well... The Everly Brothers, Bill Murray and Gilda Radner, 10,000 Maniacs, The 3 Stooges, Johnny Horton, The King, T. Rex, Brian Eno and all your favorite holiday songs. The moodiness of the masses during the shopping season gets some discussion. Along with a little language. Traffic girls just want to have fun. Santa forgot a little boy. Something about burning airlines, wrecking the halls, having a river to skate away on. Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie. The Hank Ballard tale of woe. And Ryan Adams finds his inner Heartbreaker... All here on episode #65! Look for #66 soon!

EPISODE 66 : 5TH BEATLE FOR A DAY

2019? Whoever heard of such? I was invincible and never going to get old just a few years ago. Father time and Mother Nature can take it deep! In all seriousness, I really did enjoy doing this episode. I'm beginning to feel more comfortable and at ease with the episodes upon their return. I mention in the episode that I was scared to bring the podcast back because it can be so much more personal than my radio program. For God's sake, I can't say I've been out of my element. I do these in MY LIVING ROOM! However, It's a different beast, and I've found a new path to walk with it. Isn't that sweet? What happens on this episode? Well, I have a famous co-host that I never banked on, for starters. Phil and Don, Moe and Joe, Mike and Clint... Mister Rogers meets me at my 90 minute massage. I thank some very important friends. Who the hell is Jane Asher? Not THAT partner of Elton John's. The other one! Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller took their brilliance to the city of angels before it was the gold standard. From the music library come played sides by The Troggs, The Cops, Peter and Gordon, The Beach Boys, Mike Stinson, Cracker, Patsy Cline, Jon Brion, The Rolling Stones, John Cage, Radiohead, Galaxie 500, and oh, possibly more. I'm so glad to bring this one to you all.

EPISODE 76 : VULNERABLE AFTER A PAPER CUT/FAMILY IS EVERYTHING

Surrounded by records and a beautiful day, although a hot one, Episode #76 is here for you to enjoy. My mind was in a few different places throughout the day. I'd decided to go ahead and get an episode done. It was a great, therapeutic escape from things. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did recording it! What lies here is as follows: Grizzly Bear takes me back, Sonny and Cher kept the Wrecking Crew in great material, Frank Zappa sleeps in a jar, Uncle Tupelo may have changed Country Music, Kingsway Studios produced some great records in New Orleans through the vision of Daniel Lanois and Mark Howard, Kiss liked the "Their Satanic Majesty's Request" album, Jimmy Durante was a unique talent, Hurricane Dorian has been a nightmare for many, something from the email grab bag, Elvis Is Red... Elvis Is Blue with a two song shot, Brian Whelan records a demo of a song Mike Stinson wrote and hasn't recorded. Thank you to the both of them for allowing me to share that with you all. EPISODE 77 : GRAVEYARD SHIFT

"Graveyard Shift, Clint?" Yes. For three reasons, 1. Having been recorded in October, it seemed a good title for such a month. 2. I recorded this episode pretty late night. AND 3. Unfortunately, the meat and potatoes of this podcast deals with the loss of many artists that seemed to leave us all at about the same time.

Every time I'd go to record the new episode, it seemed someone who rested in my record collection passed on. I kept deciding to wait and incorporate them all if possible. Daniel Johnston, Eddie Money, and Ric Ocasek all died within about a week of one another. I felt I had some things to share about all three. So I did. Along with my anecdotes, come other things as well... Harriet Nelson talks Rock N' Roll with her son, Rick, Bryan Adams has the same Birthday as who? Hot Lips Page ain't got no flies on him. Michael Penn has always made good music. Tom Waits channels Daniel Johnston through King Kong. HeresnotherunfrumChuckProphet-mah…

EPISODE 78 : 78 RPM

This might be the purest podcast I've done so far. I had this idea almost 15 episodes ago for this premise. What you will hear in this episode is a collection of songs from my personal collection of 78 RPM records. I've been, somewhat, collecting them for a long time. There is a lot of care that comes with such a collection. These records, being made out of shellac, and not vinyl, tend to be very brittle. Talk about "kid gloves"... One has to be ginger with these records. They sound so good, however. I thought it would be an interesting experiment to see how, when heard all together in one designated time frame, these records would sound in 2019. I think they sound just as good today as ever. Then again, a lot of that is in the songs I chose to play. Most, if not all, are pretty timeless. There is much to hear on this episode. Johnnie Ray illustrates his influence on the style of Elvis Presley's ballad approach, Harry Choates records in Houston, but waltz's back to Port Arthur, Texas, Amos Milburn orders 3 drinks, Gene Krupa loves his country, Joe Turner can't shed light on matters, The Robins hit up a 24 hour spot, Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys are just over the moon about where they're from, The Orioles approach an old Country/Gospel song with a dark, spare, and sullenly beautiful sound, Sam Cooke can trade lead vocals with Paul Foster Until Jesus calls him home, Percy Mayfield wrote amazing songs for himself, too, Charles Brown soothes with his tone and 3:00 a.m. arrangement, and it's totally okay that Luke drifts on.... Along with more. I hope you guys enjoy this episode. It is something I've wanted to do for a while, and I loved the idea of a challenge in "mixing" 78's. Comments/questions always welcome via email. And as always, thank you all for continuing to support this podcast.

EPISODE 79 : HALLOWEEN TALE: AT MY DOOR THE LEAVES ARE FALLING

Everything scares me on any given day. However, today, I'm told I'm supposed to be MORE scared! It's Halloween! It's time to make Granny's wig fly up in the air from when she finds the fake fly you put in her iced tea.

Aside from such hijinks comes something I hope we all can agree on: A podcast! This episode is a great one to sort candy by. There is a bit of language, so keep the earmuffs in the room. Heard in this haunting episode will be The Descendents, The Equadors show us how to Dance the Sputnik, Johnny Williams is in New Orleans when it rains, David Bowie channels Marc Bolan a bit, David Bazan either had a copy of "New Morning", or loves "The Dude", Buddy Guy is watching you, The Critters are Dieingly Sad about the possibility of going off to war, Gary Gulman plays a role for you, the Astros in so many words, narcissistic fans that would rather reek than lose, Nick Drake defines brilliance in the Fall, some people come into your life and you both circle one another like wagons, James Ray doesn't think you have to make a fool of him, and Courtney Barnett reminds you how to apply compression. Thanks for the continued support! And for returning to the website. It's great to see how many of you listen from other states, cities, and even countries. I still truly love doing this. Hope you enjoy! You can always reach out via email! adayinthelifepodcast@gmail.com

EPISODE 80 : A LETTER TO GALVESTON ISLAND

This was an interesting episode for me. I'd just come off of a nice little bit of traveling after having not done that in several years. I'm still so thankful that I was able to make that happen. Time in Galveston, Texas proved to be a lot of fun. I listened to a lot of music while on the island, and decided to feature a bit of what I listened to there with you all. The passing of a dear friend was essential in subject matter for me to mention. John Henson meant a lot to me, and you should be able to tell that. This episode contains many little stories of my time on the island, a few pearls of musical information that always prove my effortless ability to be a dork. Musically, Beau Brummels recorded an album in 1968 at Owen Bradley's Barn in Nashville. A Randy Newman song graces us from such a record. Sam Fender is an artist I just recently got exposed to, Counting Crows channel the ghost of Psychedelic Furs, Don Knotts is a "Lion with the girls, and a Tiger with men...", Rhett Miller can only go alone so far, Jim Croce is trying to make a phone call, and a hit record about it, 2 Borderlines are explored, Jeff Buckley showers beauty in a way that no other could; before or since... Billy Joel and Spoon have a lot in common, The Beach Boys have a really nice vocal blend full of genius, My Morning Jacket love the way he sings, and The Mills Brothers sing beautifully, too. Thank you all for continued support. I hope you enjoy this one as much as the others. Or more.

John Henson. Rest In Peace. You'll Be Missed.

EPISODE 81 : IT'S JUST NOT THANKSGIVING UNTIL IT'S MANDATORY!

It's purely bad manners to sulk over a full plate of turkey, and all the trimmings. This episode was recorded the actual Thanksgiving holiday. There were a couple of explosions at a chemical plant in Port Neches, TX. Followed by a mandatory evacuation for Nederland, Port Neches, and Groves. You will hear the tale in its full form on the podcast. I decided to spend part of my Thanksgiving with you guys. A podcast seemed in order, and I was happy to oblige! Along for the ride, and present here are The Troggs, Fats Domino cooks up a Cajun dish, Gang Starr makes a stop in Houston for some help, The Louvin Brothers were huge influences on the Everly Brothers, who appear, as do The Raincoats, Babs Gonzales, The Clean, The E Street Band and their singer/songwriter, Hayes Carll, Brenda Lee featuring Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin, Mathew Sweet, and so much more. I wax philosophically on Steve-O, talk a bit about Willie Nelson's song sales days, and much, much more. I hope you all enjoy it, and I'll see ya on # '82!

Happy Holidays, Yo!

EPISODE 82 : TEN MISTLE-FINGERS, TEN MISTLE-TOES (PART 1)

Wow, Clint... a 2-Part podcast?" YES! It's been a while since I have done episodes that continually bring one thing together. In this case, it is the holiday season. I thought it might be fun to just hang out and spend a few hours with ya for your holidays. A Winter soundtrack of sorts. There are all kinds of shenanigans in this first installment.

The Sonics don't believe in Christmas, Josh Rouse takes us to the Hamptons, JD McPherson doesn't need anymore gifts, while Pearl Bailey is all about a box of money for Christmas. The Pixies wrote about the holidays even on their first E.P., Jimmy Butler wants to trim your tree, Kristen Hersh looks for a cleaner light, I pose the questions of how to bide your time when you want to talk to a girl while she works, Steve Winwood was a great singer as a teenager, Bill Burr explains why side effects keeps him from medications, Little Richard takes a "thing" and makes it taller, and taller, and The Rolling Stones get covered a bit by a Christian radio blurb from the early 1970's. Not to mention, MUCH MORE...

Listen to the episode

EPISODE 83 : TEN MISTLE-FINGERS, TEN MISTLE-TOES (PART 2)

The fun continues from #83 here... R.E.M. split a 45 single with Pearl Jam one Christmas, and they both put it out through their fan clubs, Iggy Pop is dreaming of Bing, Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians are so great, Joe Tex is from a great state, John Lennon gets discussed with back-handed compliments from a Christian Rock radio spot from the early 1970's, Depeche takes me back and it's no good, the 3 Stooges catch cold, a pig sings Elvis, and Elvis sings of an Angel. Meanwhile, I wonder why backing into parking spots has become a thing... and much, much more. Thanks to all of you for continued support and for listening! Merry Christmas! See you soon on #84!

EPISODE 85 : 2020 VISION

It only took nearly 3 MONTHS! However, I am back and ready to hit the open road of podcasting once again! I've been out with all kinds of things going on... It is really nice to be back. With the current Quarantines happening, I thought I'd take this time and opportunity to ready and record a couple of new episodes. I'm so glad I did. Well worth my time, and I hope you all feel the same, and can find the time to check them out!

This episode had been planned out 3 different times, and then shit kept happening. Both personally, and culturally. So, I kept re-planning. It is finally done and with you all now.

The first set is in honor of the horrible coronavirus pandemic... And the times in which we are living... Mudhoney needs to be touched, Joe Tex recorded for King records and a fever turned into pneumonia for him, Inspiral Carpets make an appearance, and the Mountain Goats are just trying to make it through. Elsewhere in the episode XTC gets tuff, Bertell Dache will love always love the Shirelles, The Wild Moccaasins catch a young man's wave, The Beatles' harmonies sound like heaven, Pavement is meeting at Ikea, Duran Duran sends love to the female actress in any movie, George Carlin was a genius in sickness and in health, plus a lot more. I hope you all enjoy this episodic return! And for even more fun, Episode #86 was recorded right after. Thanks for listening and supporting, as always.

EPISODE 86 : A WING AND A PRAYER

One podcast deserves one more to follow it. Recorded the same night, and right after episode #85, I'd like you all to meet episode #86! A continuation of the evening, if you will.

Heard in this episode... James Burton probably wrote the lick to Suzie Q by Dale Hawkins, Martin L. Gore is a big Leonard Cohen fan, Richard Buckner is an artist unto himself, Fleetwood Mac had an incredible talent in Peter Green... not only an INSANE guitarist, but I've always loved his voice, he was a man of the world, Fred Astaire faces the music, Sammy Davis, Jr. notices that he is "too close", The Smiths notice the streets of London, Teenage Fanclub channels Pink Floyd, we see that the world is in a hell of a fix, Son Volt still do their thing, Flaming Lips Race for it, and Kevin Russell aka Shinyribs submits a song only days old that reflects what we are all dealing with right now. A demo recording of a song not available ANYWHERE! Or, at least at the time of this podcast. Be safe out there, take care of yourselves, and thank you all for the time you spend listening to this podcast. I hope it remains consistent and solid. I love doing it. See you all on #87!

EPISODE 87 : POURING THE COALS TO IT

The Quarantine lifestyle continues! This episode finds us continuing on with the plan... Within the walls of this episode, you'll find... a tribute to the amazing Bill Withers, who sadly passed today. As an artist, he meant a lot to me. Also, Larry Williams had a cousin in Lloyd Price, Nothing Means Nothing to the Alley Cats, The Exciters sing Barry/Greenwich, The Lemonheads go leaping into a hug, The Velvets have had it, Tommy Stinson was in an amazing band even after the Replacements, The Raincoats are in love, Tony Burrello wants you to listen to worms with him, The Cult Remixed, Little Umbrellas cover Hot Rats, and Bob Dylan's watch doesn't need to work... Plus more. Thanks for all the support and love. Hope to see you all again soon! Stay Home! Take Care of yourselves!

EPISODE 89 : IN A MANNER OF SPEAKING

Quarantine, Quarantine, Quarantine... I guess I'm glad that I have the time to do a couple of podcasts at one time, and even more happy that you all might have the time to listen to them. Thank you for whatever time you may spend with these episodes.

First things first. Rest In Peace, Mr. John Prine. This episode features a full set/tribute to a man that so many people have been mourning. Mr. Prine was singular in a world of songwriting style, phrasing, and approach. The comparisons to Mark Twain that I've been hearing are so accurate. He will be missed.

Elsewhere in this episode, look for... Neil Diamond's duet with Natalie Maines, The Clovers croon an amazing song and capture a mood, Jimi Hendrix sets a tone like only his experience can, Sam Cooke and Paul Foster may be two of the most amazing singers that ever lived, Irma Thomas gives permission to take her hubby, Bing Crosby is going to a parade on Sunday, Ella Fitzgerald sings Duke Ellington while in his presence, BR5-49 has seen the lose episode of The Andy Griffith Show, Tracy Chapman does one for her lover, Andy Flores struggles through a few jokes about the Quarantine in a new recurring feature on the podcast, and Charles Bukowski points out that people are not good to one another. Plus much more. Thank you all for continued listens and for passing along the info about the podcast and its website here. 90 is up next!

EPISODE 90 : SPEAKING OF MANNERS

90 episodes? Holy hell! What an achievement for me! It appears that I spend A LOT of time at home! Ha! This was recorded the same day and right after episode #89. Grab your glasses and look deep into this episode for... The Motor City 5 BURNING UP the place! Madonna's pap smear for sale, The Lords of The New Church cover "Like A Virgin", Manassas is such a great record with great songs. The Rose Garden was a one-hit wonder in 1967, The 5 Channels bring some beautiful doo-wop, Gene Autry also sings an Easter classic, The Jayhawks offer to run away, The novel, "High Fidelity" took place in the UK and featured key moments with songs which were not included in the film based in Chicago, Eric Burdon & The Animals knew it all when they were young, Barry Mann missed his chance at getting out of that place, Bill Hicks talks about the resurrection and celebration with a new angle, and U2 covers Robert Knight. It is without a doubt that I love doing these episodes. I hope it shows in the style and quality. Thank you all for supporting this endeavor. I promise to do it for as long as I humanly can.

EPISODE 91 : MIXED MESSAGES

If a podcast falls in a quarantine and people are 6 ft. away... WILL IT BE HEARD? That is the question, isn't it...? I will hope that it will be! I hope you all are doing well considering the circumstances of this pandemic. I know things are difficult for all of us right now. However, my motivation with these "quarantine broadcast" podcasts is to make the time and situation a little more tolerable.

This podcast is packed with so many things... Andy Flores makes his triumphant return with his "Bad Quarantine Joke Minute" feature. Also, look for The Pernice Brothers, Neil Young sings about a guy I can relate to, Bert Jansch finds the Black Water Side, Alejandro's bed is getting crowded, the ultimate dance record gets a spin, Bob Mould's sweet band after Husker Du makes an appearance, The Little Dippers warrant a bit of info concerning Pete Drake, The Monkee's do a Rivers Cuomo song, George Jones sings one of the greatest "weeper''s of all time, Frank Sinatra seems to remember you, but he's not sure, and Lucinda Williams proves to be one of the best singer/songwriters of the last 30 years. Much more, of course. Thanks for the support!

EPISODE 92 : MESSAGES MIXED

It's almost like flipping a 45 record over for "Part 2"... Episode #91 continues here... but is certainly its own episode, nonetheless.

Ike And Tina pull into "Nutbush", The Raindrops were some amazing songwriters, Aimee Mann's first band had a hit record that gets a spin, Joe Ely had a few issues with Billy "The Kid", George Harrison has a song that goes into another Galaxie, Morrissey keeps re-living the same day, The Zombies were a big influence on many bands, Wilco gets covered by Bill Fay while they have a Company In Their Backs, Rick Nelson was ahead of his time in some ways, and The Yardbirds have a heartful of soul...

EPISODE 95 : LOOKING FOR SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL

Time to "enjoy the luxury"! 96 episodes! Wow, that is crazy to me. The good news is that it is still so much fun, and I'm constantly plotting episodes, and writing things for them. This was a really fun episode to do. I was in a mood. Ha! AC/DC open sesame and encourage us to get it up. Senator Bobby is a wild thing, the Pixies, Bobby Bare, and Johnny Cash frame Alex Chilton and Jim Dickinson musically in a Memphis nod, who is Andrew Wood? Eddie Cochran rocks, John Wesley Ryles had a great voice, Belle & Sebastian make an appearance, and The Tragically Hip are still one of my favorite bands. Episode #96 was recorded immediately after this one. Hope you all are enjoying these episodes!

Listen to the episode

EPISODE 96 : FINDING SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL

Another 80 minutes in the void! I really enjoyed recording 95 and 96. These episodes are packed with a lot. And I was in a particularly jaunty mood. Alice In Chains had Nancy Wilson sing back up with them, Elvis Presley sings one from the World's Fair, The Church make me think of Beaumont, Texas and Phillip Broussard, Sammi Smith takes Kristofferson's lyrics and turns into something different, Bob Wills always sounds like Texas, Bruce Channel had more than one song? Lulu married Maurice Gibb, and sang a great song about a favorite film and teacher. Plus much, much more... Thank you all for the time you spend listening!

EPISODE 97 : RIVER DEEP…

The crazy times continue. What would we do without podcasting? Ha! Well, Here are another 2 episodes for you to enjoy. I was really enjoying these. I always enjoy doing this, don't get me wrong, but these episodes seemed to flow very well in my recording process.

Things to look for:

The first appearance of Yes, Mathew Sweet is a great live show if you ever get a chance to see him, Ike and Tina had a lot riding on the track I play by them, the 4 Seasons needed to be heard at a time when national disaster was a possibility, A popular band from Liverpool managed by Brian Epstein rocks out, Terry Callier goes 900 miles, and "where were you when you fell for Jackson Browne's records?"

All of this and more. Hope you all enjoy it!

EPISODE 98 : …MOUNTAIN HIGH

The podcast rolls forward with the second endeavor of one evening! I was in the groove by the time this episode started. What might you find in this episode? Well...

Aloe Blacc loves The Velvet Underground as much as I do, the Velvets play The Armadillo Headquarters in Austin, 1969, The Burned want you to "Listen", The Cult gets remixed, R.E.M. records a live album unconventionally, The Generationals know about relationship fighting, New Who, Don Morrow scats up the nursery rhymes, Harold Jenkins changed his name to what? Flying Burrito Brothers do such a great version of a Dan Penn/Spooner Oldham song, and Joy Division morphs into a great new band... More, as well.

Dig it, peeps!

EPISODE 99 : THOSE WITH THE STRONGEST OPINIONS USUALLY END UP ALONE

A farewell to double-digit episodes. I have struggled not to sob into my root beer. It's like leaving home for the first time. I'm kidding, of course. I'm excited not only that I've reached as many episodes, but also by the "blank canvas" that sits before me for the next 100! However, I thoroughly enjoyed the recording of this episode. The mixing came out really well. To be heard in this episode: Deathray Davies from Dallas, TX, Dwight Yoakam ain't that lonely, Jay-Z got some problems, Billy Gibbons had a band before ZZ Top, and they moved down the walkway, Nena has some balloons, how many ya need? Bobby Austin co-writes a country standard with Johnny Paycheck, Johnny Winter encourages a bleak tomorrow, The Who see down the road, another installment of "The Bad Joke Quarantine Minute"! And much, much more. It is mentioned that on this day MANY people gathered at Discovery Green here in Houston, TX and marched as one to City Hall in protest of the murder that happened in Minneapolis of George Floyd (Who was originally from Houston, TX)… So many things going on in this crazy world right now. I worked around him the best I could, but the elephant in the room was definitely on my couch. Ate up all the damn snacks I had in the house.. I told him, "You keep eating like that, you're going to end up the size of an elepha Never mind..." See you on Episode #100!

EPISODE 100: "I'VE TOLD YOU 100 TIMES"

I never thought in a hundred years, that I’d be writing this. This podcast was really just an idea that flourished and worked out. I have done my best to keep with my original vision of it reflecting the world I live in, what’s going on within any random day in my life, and what music I’ve been listening to. It’s been so great to share these things with you all. The podcast strives to continue on its path of being a music blog, mix tape, audio journal, and exercise in radio style all wrapped in one. This episode was treated as if it were an LP. There are 2 parts of this celebration: Side 1/Side 2! There is a lot happening here. MANY friends sent in “congratulations”-type messages. It was humbling and a lot of fun to hear others take the Mic for a bit. I love having friends and family involved in the podcast. Included in our celebration is Willie Nelson, in honor of ADITL being recorded in Texas, a brand new single by my friend, Brian Whelan, I “save a prayer” from the first episode, Henry Phillips gets priorities right in the face of the apocalypse, The Raveonettes, Terence Trent D’Arby, De La Soul, Words from James Baldwin start the episode, Dada sing about a bar in S.F., Elvis Presley had a beautiful voice, Radiohead gets into a vibe that only they can find, Peter Green, Patty Griffin, David Bowie records a demo for a song that was far from home, the question comes to mind: Do bands still set goals to be on the cover of a music magazine? John Fulbright, The Cinderellas, and the Beatles are heard doing a song that, surprisingly has never been played in it’s entirety as a master recording on this podcast. It’s all here, and more! I hope you enjoy the 100 episode as much as I enjoyed recording it! A new leaf turns a bit on 101! Thank you all for continued support. “LIKE” our FB page! Take care of yourselves and one another. Things are tough, but hang in there, guys!

EPISODE 101 : A WORLD HESITANT TO EXHALE

WE HAVE GATHERED HERE, TODAY...

Well, to continue an experiment that seems to be working out. I took a little time to start up the next 100 for a couple of reasons. First of all, I wanted #100 to be the "featured" episode for a little longer than the others. I was very proud to have reached that point. Therefore, thank you to anyone that is reading this and listens to what I do. I enjoy it immensely, and I don't know what I'd do without it, now. It's a nice escape, yet at the same time, its an exploration in self-indulgence. Ha.

We begin this episode with Social Distortion and it takes off from there. Look for The Big Boys, Bob Dylan's brand new album, a great cover of a Love song, The James Gang, Brian Eno will never hear this, The Harptones, Chuck Prophet, Golden Smog, and much more. I hope you all enjoy episode 101! I have been planning and scheming to get some new episode ideas to flourish. Look for some upcoming fun with the episodes! Pass the word!

UNTOLD TIME : THE MIKE STINSON TAPES

Uncertainty is something that can really affect the way you make decisions and live from day to day. Since this pandemic started, I took it upon myself to "shut out" a pretty good amount. My decision to "whittle" my world down to a smaller version was something I didn't take lightly, at first. I've been seeing only a handful of people on the regular as of late. I'm sure many of us are in the same boat. Something occurred to me at one point. Mike and I had been hanging out, catching up, and staying in touch since it all started. Many are nights that we would grill out, have a few laughs, and try to forget that we are in an upside down world right now. Meanwhile, I thought it would be a lot of fun to record, both as a good hang, and as a document of the time we are living in, Mike and I talking about music, film, gigging, the pandemic, songwriting, family, drums, growing up, and much more. I pitched the idea to Mike, and he loved it. We didn't quite know what to expect in terms of outcome on these episodes. I'd decided to record it very loose and comfortably, while keeping it concise and hopefully, preserving the integrity of what I started here 103 episodes ago. This series of podcasts are as candid and real as it gets for me. They may even sound a bit more like a "typical" podcast than my normal episodes. However, I'm very proud of how the series is turning out. I hope you all enjoy it.

One thing that makes this series so special, as well, is the kind inclusion of brand new demos of Mike's that have never been available. These songs and demos will become, in some fashion, Mike Stinson's next record. I can't thank him enough for letting me share these songs with you all, as I think they are great songs. I want to thank you all for continued support for this podcast and hope that returned visits are a "no brainer".

It has taken me a bit to get these episodes edited and prepared for posting. The content has ONLY been edited for time.

My thoughts and best wishes are with you all at this time. I know we are all dealing with so much in our own little worlds, but keep your collective heads up... and come hang in the living room with me and one of my closest friends.

Thanks again, Mike!

EPISODE 107 : THE RETURN FROM SUMMER CAMP

...And so it is again! Welcome to a "return to form" of sorts. It was almost like riding a unicycle! This episode was fun to do and I enjoyed sharing what I've been listening to with you all! What should your ears look for? Well, we get things kicking with The Flower Pot Men... and you just might get some visuals of Chicago's downtown area. Went drinking with the Wooden Birds, The English Beat make an appearance. Gil Scott-Heron does an early reading of a brilliant piece of work, Ariel Pink talks revolution, Elvis Presley records Otis Blackwell during a "comeback". Guadalcanal Diary reminds us of "College Rock"... The Benny Goodman Trio never sounded so good. Peter, Paul and Mary dig the Rock N' Roll, The Tremeloes get Cat Stevens involved, The Cyrkle cover the Beatles, Bruce Robison keeps us state proud! Plus much, much more! I hope you enjoy! EPISODE 108 : TAKING IT DEEP IN THE SHORT PANTS FROM THE WHITE MAN (PT. 1)

Another two part podcast! I wanted to dedicate a good amount of time to this time in our history. Recorded mere days before the 2020 Presidential election, this episode was fun to do, and still has a bit of a different tone. It is my goal to take an audio snapshot of this crazy time. So, here it is! Lots going on in this episode! Joe South takes a gospel approach to a song that became a hit record for him, we learn that even a Possum can struggle through days, William S. Burroughs pays tribute to a Lizard King, Clarence Reid gives us a truth about fools, Stephen Colbert rears his head, Neil Young knows where ANYONE can have soul, John Cale mixed a great Stooges track, Mike Stinson has a new single, and we hear it! EPISODE 110 : FIT TO BE TIED

It has been a few weeks since the last episode, therefore, I thought I'd pop in and spend some time with you all. Staying home as much as I have, has had me digging through records even more deeply than I do normally. It has been a lot of fun and has proven comforting to get songs and things together for you with each new episode. There is a lot here. Two songs from Old 97's get some time here. Along with A Tribe Called Quest, The Vaselines, The Dixie Aires, The Finn Brothers, Jim Backus and Daws Butler, Red Sovine, Lenny Bruce, Nirvana pay homage to the Velvet Underground, New Order opens the episode with maybe my favorite song of theirs... Bob Dorough, and even a Christmas message from four young lads in 1965. Wait! There is more! So, click on... and listen in! Happy Holidays, everyone. Happy Holidays, you guys! Keep your heads up, and look for new episodes in the near future!

Although, I don't know if we will get what we think we might. I sincerely hope so. At any rate, Happy New Year! #'s 114 and 115 were recorded back to back. EPISODE 116 : THE INAUGURAL HIGH BALL, PART 1

As I stood in my living room watching Bruce Springsteen sing in front of the Lincoln Memorial to an audience that he would only have to imagine, I was miffed by the weight of what happened today. A new U.S. President was sworn in, and our new Vice President is a black/asian woman with traditionally fresh ideas and a clean slate from which to work. So much has gone on in 1 year's time. It all kind of hit me while watching the "Boss" bring his blue collar passion to the masses.

When thinking about what I wanted to do with the first podcast of 2021, I thought immediately about how the pandemic has really changed our behaviors, our mood, and our day to day lives in general. This led me to the idea of producing the first two episodes of 2021 as an "audio happy hour". Complete with crowd/bar noise, adult beverages (not for me), and a friend to help me co-host and discuss these crazy times. Mark Riddell is along for these episodes, and I'm so glad he did this.

Things to look forward to in this episode: The Grateful Dead find 'Morning Dew', the New York Dolls sound a bit like the Modern Lovers... or vice/versa... George Jones crawls into a bottle and gets out of control, Ted Hawkins stops by the bar and runs into his old lady, Trump concedes, Carl Phillips sets up another drink, Mike Nichols, Elaine May, and Dave Bartholomew for Jax Beer, The Moving Sidewalks represent Houston Psychedelia, while Bill Ham releases a rockabilly-esque song for the Dot records label before Managing ZZ Top, Lenny Kravitz's highest priority is love, and so much more! I hope you all enjoy installment 1 of this "two-parter"...

EPISODE 117 : THE INAUGURAL HIGH BALL, PART 2

The "Ball" rolls on... This episode is a continuation of the last episode, and by the time this was recorded, midnight had passed, bringing us into the 21st of January, 2021...

Things to look forward to: Slaid Cleaves quits his drinking ways, Johnny "Guitar" Watson is gettin' drunk, The Fugs and Johnny Carson enjoy breasts, Dolly Parton laughs about it, The Donays influence the Beatles, Andy has a whole new "Joke minute", Chris Stapleton channels Etta James and Muscle Shoals, all of Mike Stinson's "good cheer just flew away", AC/DC buys a round, and Dwight Yoakam goes acoustic! Plus: MUCH MORE!

Hope you all enjoy!

EPISODE 118 : ALWAYS KNOW YOUR BARISTA!

The last episode had us all engaging in the relaxed type of virtual setting that IS a bar. This time around, I thought we'd hang at a coffee shop/cafe and soak up the snobbery that I often contribute to. I'm not actually at a coffee shop here, but at home using background noise to capture the feeling of being somewhere that I dearly miss and long for. Having you all along for the ride, or "sitting at the table" with me, in a way, is always a pleasure.

This episode brings with it Lightnin' Hopkins, Nick Lowe, Elliott Smith, Harlem River Drive ponders the possibility of "If (We Had Peace Today)", La La Brooks was the lead singer of the Crystals, Phil Spector recently passed, Michael Fracasso takes us through "Coffeeville", The Seeds take Country music into the drug scene, The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band smells incense, I discuss frustrations within Social Media behaviors, and much more! Grab your almond milk cappuccino and come along for 80 minutes that you'll never get back!

EPISODE 120 : UP THE RIVER

Recorded February 11, 2021 while it was blustery and almost freezing in Houston, TX. My good friend, Mark Riddell, once again, hangs out for a couple of episodes. It is always good to have Mark along, as he's one of my closest friends. We "wax on" and "wax off" philosophically about many things including day two of the 2nd impeachment trial of former President T****, the lack of "Taco Tuesdays" in Congress, as well as so much rhetoric regarding the music. Musically, keep an ear out for Harry Nilsson's attempt at writing a title song for the film, "Midnight Cowboy", Joy Division presents darkness in the heart of town, Concrete Blonde pays tribute to Leonard Cohen, Lana Del Rey takes the risk and just says it, The Smiths take the land, Peter Wolf found it Fun For A While, Elvis Costello had a two "first records", The San Francisco sound "flies" low, plus SO much more! The next two episodes here were a really loose and fun time. Joey McKeel, who is a close longtime friend, co-hosted and hung out with me on this set of shows. EPISODE 124 : CODE OF THE ROAD (PART 1)

With percentage numbers climbing that indicate more and more Americans getting the Covid 19 vaccine, I feel relieved to see some type of light down the not so distant future. It's been in my mind since this pandemic began to get in the car and just go on an endless driving journey. For all the reasons that postponed such an idea, there was a spark of an idea that allowed me to make it, somewhat, possible. This podcast, once again, proved to help my imagination along find an escape of sorts.

What you will find here, is the first episode in a series of 4 that take you on an audio road trip with my good friend, Mark Riddell, and myself. EPISODE 128 : SHOT #1

I thought I'd wait a bit before doing these next two podcasts. That way, I figured, you all could digest and get through the last episodes. Ha! Well, I have to admit, I really enjoyed doing these podcasts. It felt like a return to form and I was able to focus on the center of the dartboard. Even if I didn't hit it. Lots here on #128. Some stories about a Covid scare, and getting vaccinated. Things I suppose many of us can relate to. My tastes have been all over the place musically for the last few weeks. What you'll hear here is an exploration into the effects that drugs, both legal/illegal have had on Pop Culture. To me, that includes music, film, literature, television, art, etc... EPISODE 138 : WATTS IN A NAME (PART 1)

Juggling a radio program and a podcast can be a lot. However, I love doing both. It’s like that old saying, “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” I concur with that sentiment. I took some time getting episodes 138-139 together, not unlike any others I do routinely. It seemed like every time I’d be ready to record, something else would happen either personally, or culturally. These things became relevant as to what I wanted to talk about, and here we are.

First and foremost, we lost Charlie Watts. Losing him was a huge blow to my mood and my heart. I’m a really big Rolling Stones fan. Along with all of the jokes regarding their ages, and how long they’ve been doing it, comes the comfort in just that thing. Even in a joking context, it felt like that band would just eternally endure. Charlie’s death was a painful reminder that life doesn’t work that way. There is no shortage of folks that felt that way, as well, I’d assume. Everything that I felt about the Stones, and Charlie, personally, are feelings that exist in the majority of the fans of that band, I’m sure. I thought a lot about all the times I’ve sat with their catalog and been influenced on many levels throughout my life. I wanted to do a tribute to Charlie and the band that you might not hear anywhere else. I hope I succeeded.

Throughout the episode you will hear Charlie Watts bash through an all time Rock N’ Roll classic, George Carlin gets “High On The Plane”, The theme from an epic film made in 1955-‘56 that featured the final work of James Dean, and brought worldwide attention to Maria, Texas… Book of Love does a great song about flowers, The Olympics like the “Western Movies” and were also known for having hits under the name The Marathons… Concrete Blonde channels Tommy James and the Shondells…Nirvana get a new mix in 2013, and much, much more.

Listen to the episode

EPISODE 139 : WATTS IN A NAME (PART 2)

I, honestly, can’t remember the last time I recorded only one episode of the podcast. It never fails: every time I get into one, it flies by and I don’t want it to end just yet, so I’ll typically continue on into another episode. That is the case here. Lots more happening on #139.

In this episode, you’ll find Yo La Tengo toying with aim, Roy Orbison brings an epic recording of one of his finest songs, Iggy Pop likes Jay & The Americans, Frank Black is a nice guy, Little Richard records at a young age in Houston, TX. Chuck Berry gives a lesson on how get a new car. Shel Silverstein pays tribute to a Counntry Music Giant…. Johnny Cash would Rather Die Young… his kids love him, but they don’t understand…. Luna makes a great appearance, the Stones jam informally, and we hear my favorite Rolling Stones song of all time.

EPISODE 140 : SQUARING OFF

The Return Of The Podcast! It's been some time, gang. I apologize for staying away. Much has been happening. I've been writing these two episodes out and planning them for almost a month. I'm so glad to have them here and in full dimension stereo!

There was quite a lot of music that I wanted to make sure got played on these episodes. This episode begins with a needle being dropped on a "Dance Record" that will teach you a little something about the twist. There is so much to listen for. The Mamas And The Papas shoot you straight, Billy Joel went for an "anthem" but still came out with a classic track, The 5 Satins were one of the greatest vocal groups. The Minus 5 tells us of what Christmas is like in Antarctica, The Beach Boys loved late night talk shows... the meaning of "shoe gaze"... Surf records still sound good in December. The Jayhawks run away, John Mayall points out adults acting like children, and much more. I hope you all enjoy this episode. #141 will continue this hang, if you'd like to keep it going...

Well wishes, and peaceful holidays with friends and family.

EPISODE 141 : CIRCLING AROUND

The saga continues. Humid, foggy, muggy, shitty weather does not help in the motivation department. I keep hoping for cold weather just so there will be a change.

This episode is a continuation of the last. We dive into Nick Lowe, who's got questions regarding love, The King Normals go "Beat Music", The Velvet Underground lead Mazzy Star down a dark hallway hand in hand, Ronnie Hawkins channels Hank Williams, Michael Fracasso has such a great voice and ability to write it right, U2 hang a stocking on the chimney with care, and I pay an extensive tribute to Michael Nesmith.

Tell a friend or stranger that you listen to this podcast. Thank you. Happy Holidays to you all.

EPISODE 142 : OUT WITH THE OLD

12 days into 2022, and it still feels like 2021. Ha! I'm kidding. I'm as hopeful as I can be about the coming year, and I hope you all enjoyed your holidays. It was so nice to drop in and do a couple episodes for ya. I look more closely after what I say on the radio. However, here on the podcast, the freedom keeps me smiling. There is a lot in this episode.

I start 2022 out by paying tribute to an artist that captured my ears and my heart early on. Rick Nelson, who perished in a plane crash on NYE in 1985, always stayed a mainstay in my heavy rotation. If you're not familiar with him or his music, this is a very broad tribute. I loved dusting off those old 45 and throwing them in the mix.

Also, be on the lookout for Buxton, Roy Tan, The Who lays it down while the husband is out, Todd Rundgren tries out for the 5th Beatle, Jim Gaffigan makes an appearance, Jessica Lea Mayfield knows what's coming, Modern Lovers lay it down, and so much more. Thanks so much for the continued listening.

Rick Nelson re-appears with two more great sides, Peter Wolf has the best solo records, James McMurtry released the album of my year in 2021, Briand Whelan Sharpens his teeth, and a whole lot more. Thank you for the time and ears!

EPISODE 144 : FAMOUS LAST WORDS TAKEN ALL WRONG

I thoroughly enjoyed doing this podcast. It was easy and seemed to flow pretty well from my perspective. After a bit of an unexpected break, I brought all kinds of things to the table this time around. Things to look out for: An original demo by David Bowie, Siouxsie & The Banshees ask for lip service assistance, Slint leave something obvious behind, Dr. John trips at night and walks carefully, Bruce Springsteen records demos that become his best record (in my opinion) from his bedroom. Byron Lee makes a great appearance, The Swan Silvertone Singers bring it to church, and I pay tribute to the golden girl group voice of Ronnie Spector. I take a look at her great sound, a bit of her story, and many that she influenced and influenced her. I hope you find this to be a good listen. I enjoyed it so much, that it continues into #145! Just a couple clicks away.

EPISODE 145 : WIND UP ON THE VERY SAME PILE

The saga continues. And by “saga”, I mean Thursday. This episode picks up where the last left you. Therefore, it’s one louder, isn’t it? Much more nuttiness ensues during this episode. My tribute to Ronnie Spector continues here, as well as a great demo from The Tragically Hip that you might not recognize even if you’re a fan, Ronnie Wood brings the serious soul to the party, The Police can’t figure out why they’re burning up, there was another great label from Memphis that people rarely mention… Frank Black loves the Grass Roots, Charlie Daniels tears up the Lone Star State, Violent Femmes don’t want you to go, and Wyatt anxiously hides in the bathroom with Gary. Much more, as well, including a short list of things I hope will change in 2022. Pipe dream, I’m sure. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for continued support. Let me know if you listen.

EPISODE 146 : DINNER WITH MARIA CALLAS

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood, to coin a phrase. I found my windows and doors wide open, while my headphones were at peak level. I kept smiling throught #'146-147, which were recorded on March 20, 2022. I sincerely hope they are as fun to listen to as they were to record. Much to report on this episode! Be on the lookout Sandy Nelson was a drummer with many hit records, Todd Rundgren still sounds great, Mamie Van Doren meets the Wrecking Crew? Damien Jurado takes you from Texas To Ohio, Rocky Erickson was a haunted genius, Blind Melon go weird, Cat Stevens mad loves his pooch, D'Angelo blows minds for a living, The Replacements get frisky in public, Wayne Cochran describes his last kiss, The Bobby Fuller Four are brilliantly Texan, Dead Kennedy's take a vacation, and much, much more. Go on to #147, if you have more time to hang and want to keep this thing rolling. I'll race ya!

EPISODE 147 : FILM AT ELEVEN

I hope I beat you here, because, otherwise, you'd just be listening to dead air, which might be preferable at times. Ha! At any rate, welcome back. This is a mere continuation of the previous episode. Too much music isn't a thing in my world. There is much more on board here: The Smashing Pumpkins cover Eric Burdon & The Animals, Elvis Presley and The Drifters both bring us songs written by Doc Pomus & Mort Shuman, I revisit the pre-covid Squeeze show I saw, Jason Isbell is in the news, A Beatles outtake that seems to be missing something, don't confuse the band "Bush" with the band "The Bush", Bruce Springsteen was influenced by Del Shannon, Comfortable Silences, Danny O'Keefe used to play on the radio when I was with my family, Beck records a brilliant mess, a dance of Argentine, and much, much more. Thanks for continuing to listen.

EPISODE 148 : Everything Is Worth Something

Tired of waiting about? Well, fear not. The podcast returns. In fact, one of the reasons it took me some time to get back with you is because one or two podcast episodes became three! Things just kept coming up for me to write and talk about, and I’ve also been listening to all sorts of different records, as per usual. Therefore, I really branched out and took the journey all over the map. I was so excited to have the time to record all three of these episodes at one time. With Easter just days away, too. It’s a holiday weekend. Here we are. SO- this episode is packed with many things: We begin with a set of songs dedicated to the wait. The time ticking…with a tongue-in-cheek nod to the time it’s taken between #’s 147 and #148. A Lubbock legend is hopeful while being woeful, Brian Wilson will have that unique ability to hear brilliance until the day he dies, a Manchester band isn’t concerned with how long you’ve been waiting, Lowell George’s band is willin’ to lay down a classic, Los Lobos pays tribute to the Premiers, the Premiers pay tribute to “Kosher Pickle Harry”, Lee Hazelwood never lost his touch, but moved around some, a Beatles song goes through Jamaica and comes out so great on the other end, the question of Who Killed Bambi repeats itself without a Rotten voice, and much more.I go on about War in current times, and take as many left turns as I can. #149 awaits you.

Listen to the episode

EPISODE 149 : Well Within The Margins

The hits just keep on coming. Especially when I weigh in on Will Smith’s Oscar smack. The good time just continues on. For me, at least. Listen for: The Old 97’s get remixed, The Raincoats find their kinks, X is not giving you a pass, The Cops are going to a Homicide, The Chili Peppers lay down some seriously great playing in 2022, Echo and the Bunnymen go “Cinematic”, The Art Car Parade is a tradition in Houston, Texas, The Fendermen do more than skin a mule, Robert Plant is in a mood, Bash and Pop into Tiny Pieces, and The Candy Man makes an appearance. Hope you enjoy! Had a blast, here. #150 is NEXT!

Listen to the episode

EPISODE 150 : One Fiddy

I was in a real groove and good mood by the time I got to this episode. I think I was in good spirits since the start of #148, but by now, I was loose and “flying the plane”, so to speak.

Lots to unpack here: We start with a set of songs designed to make you realize that you have come this far in, and might as well stay. Sly lays it down, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs do a classic, Kim Gordon wants you to let inhibitions down and ride impulse through passion, there is also a long set dedicated to Death, Tragedy, and Loss. The “Teenage Tragedy” records of old show up to some degree here. Mark Dinning wants his teenage love to hear him, Jan Berry wound up on the wrong end of a story he once sang about, the Mamas and Papas know what it’s like when one runs into the ‘X’, we take a trip to Watts, and much, more. Thanks for listening, as always.

EPISODE 151 : SMUDGE NOT AND YE SHALL NOT BE SMUDGED

Episodes #151 AND #152 were recorded back-to-back! I found myself often mentioning how nice it was to be back with you all. My recent absence from new episodes was due to having lost my voice for a few weeks, which put me in a tailspin. All is good now, however. I have 85% of my voice and now you may not shut me up. Ha!

This episode is pretty packed with all kinds of things. We start with a pledge. I might add that the first set is a tribute to the Mouse and his empire! Roger Miller, Tom Waits, Shinyribs, Louis Armstrong and Los Lobos take their hats off and salute Disney. Throughout the episode, we hear a tale about 7 Rooms Of Gloom, Jon Brion’s solo record is hard to find, Al “Jazzbo” Collins talks of American Discovery, Brook Benton finds his inner Charlie Rich, Joe Hinton sings Willie, Thomas Wayne can be tragic, Chan Romero’s demo was even killer, the Rosebuds from North Carolina, and much more. Thank you for listening!

EPISODE 152 : UP WITH THE DAWN, DOWN WITH THE SUN

This hang continues from the last episode. I had a great time recording these. We hear from Gene Pitney, Kansas Joe & Memphis Minnie, Allen Ginsberg, The Swan Silvertones, Pattie Smith, Depeche Mode, Marvin Gaye, and much more. Houston heat is for real. Hope you are all keeping cool and comfortable.

EPISODE 153 : (713)

Looking back at the over the 150 plus episodes that I’ve recorded of this endeavor, it strikes me funny as to the times of day in which I normally record these. I think I’ve recorded at least one episode at almost every part of the day or night. This one, and 154, were recorded almost as an afterthought at about 1:00 AM. It had been a long day, and I wasn’t in the mood. Then, at about midnight, I got some sort of second wind and felt like I wanted to record. So here I am. Whenever you might personally listen to this podcast, thank you for doing so. I’m so proud of these.

This episode was a lot of fun. I focus a bit on “(713) Day” and honor some of the music that has come from this fair city. Look out for Father John Misty, Young Girls, Bill Hicks, Murray The “K” wasn’t much of a musician, or “the 5th Beatle”, however, he recorded a great record for Red Bird. Mike Stinson feels like he’s died and woke up on the slab, also- I do a tribute to Depeche Mode’s Andy Fletcher. It’s also hotter than hot dog water in Houston. Hope you enjoy.

EPISODE 154 : The Smaller The Town, The Bigger The Truck

The madness continues. This is a sort of part 2 to the last episode. Recorded the same evening. Much to hear here. I take a deep, opinionated dive into one of the most beautiful songs the Beatles ever recorded, we hear from the Chantels, The Bad Livers, Bathe Alone, Elizabeth Taylor volleys guided frustration to Nina Simone, I talk about the new Elvis film and we hear a few great moments of his on tape, The Dead Boys keep it real, and Freddie King keeps it more real. I really enjoyed this hang. Thanks, as always for coming back by and listening in.

EPISODE 155 : WALKS LIKE A DUCK

Clint: This is the first of two podcasts that I co-hosted with Anna Alessandra, a friend, a co-worker, and a very talented songwriter. She and I had been talking a lot about music over the last several weeks: lots of trading playlists and exposing one another to new stuff. I’m so glad she came and spent some time on the podcast. It was nice to have some conversation in the mix instead of me just talking. Her choices for each episode are excellent and I was honored to have someone play live for one of the very few times in the podcast’s history. We discuss great live music where floors shake and play everything from Joe South, Freddie King, Aimee Man, and The Cure to Elliott Smith, The Kinks, and much more!

Anna: I am so stoked to have been invited onto the set of A Day In The Life - my very first podcast everrrrr (the crowd goes willddddd). It was a blast chatting with Clint about New Orleans, North Carolina and all the places that have made an impact on my life emotionally, and thus musically. We got to share some tracks that have been imprinted in and inspired me since I first heard them, including tunes from Deep Chatham, Ryan Adams and Gillian Welch. I really hope you enjoy them and our banter! Don't sleep on part two!

EPISODE 156 : QUACKS LIKE A DUCK

Clint: The great smell of Jasmine, a double latte, and a black cherry soda were just the fuel it took to keep things rolling into #156! Anna Alessandra continues to co-host and even plays us an original song live! A big thanks to Anna and to Mike Stinson for these episodes. I have a feeling we just may hang and do this again. Thanks for always supporting and for continuing to visit the website!

Anna: Oh we will indeed be doing this again, especially since I know I can rely on Boylan Brewery Dark Cherry Soda to get me through (shameless marketing plug). This second half was really fun. We got to throw in one of my favorite Mike Stinson songs and talked a little about the history of Elizabeth Cotton in North Carolina. I'm grateful to be able to also share a tune that means so much to me - you are the first to hear it and thank y'all for sharing the airspace with me. Please give me a follow @annaalessandramusic or check out www.annaalessandra.com to see what's next. Cheers Y'all!

EPISODE 157 : IF YOU SPRINKLE WHEN YOU TINKLE...

Your dreams have come true. Two new episodes of the A Day In The Life Podcast are here for the sheer streaming! #157-58 Were recorded on the morning of Oct. 20, 2022. It was nice to slip back in and bring some new episodes to you.

My voice is a bit shaky here. I'd been dealing with the invasion of the Fall Sinus All-Stars. As of of today, they are winning and rejoicing in the end zone. However, I'm hanging in there. I just sound like Tom Waits smoking 3 packs a day at times.

I took aside some time at the top of the episode to pay homage to Queen Elizabeth II. Her passing was felt globally. I tried to have fun with her amazing legacy and spirit. Otherwise, Tom Waits makes an appearance, we also hear from Black Sheep, Tom Jones, Thee Sacred Souls, Neil Finn, Burl Ives, Alejandro Escovedo, and Alice In Chains! How about that line up?! Holy Cow. This episode is pretty weird. I say that, incidentally, with a broad smile. I hope you enjoy it and I'll see you around the corner on #158! Thanks for listening.

EPISODE 158 : ...Be A Sweetie And Wipe The Seatie

During the 20 minutes between episodes, I made coffee, gargled with mouthwash, and rehydrated best I could. Then, I threw on some headphones and began thinking about Loretta Lynn. This episode pays homage to a legend in music. She defied her place as an important female artist. Loretta was an important artist. Whom, by the way, altered so much and opened many doors for women artists of any genre to walk through more easily than before.

There are also appearances by The Bangles, The Growlers, The George Baker Selection, Mystic Braves, the Beatles and Radiohead shake hands for a moment and I also talk about a project where "Beaver" probably should've "Left" it. Look, also, for Sly And The Family Stone, Husker Du, and even a random rant about Gilligan's Island. This was enjoyable and I thank you all for continuing to listen to the podcast. I'll be back before you know it.

EPISODE 159 : FORTY-FOUR PLUS ONE

Just when you stopped waiting…

This episode was a lot of fun. #160 was recorded the same day. November 18, 2022. It begins with thoughts on a Birthday that brought me to 45. I never feel older with each Birthday. I think I just woke up and felt older at some point. Lots of music to unpack in this episode, as well. Nirvana cover Kiss, The Nazz, new music from Tody Castillo, INXS, Dizzy Gillespie, and a reading from the mind of Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Along with so much more. I shine a light on High School dances and talk teenage crushes, and so many more boring subjects. Hope you enjoy!

EPISODE 160 : WITH APOLOGIES TO PHILADELPHIA

The saga continues with episode #160! The afternoon wore on like a pair of shoes! I yuck it up about the World Series, the Astros, and even “Boomer” from the “Shootaround”! Just listen. You’ll catch it. Musically, you’ll hear Public Access T.V., Polish Pete & the I Hardly Knew Her Band, Nick Drake, Shel Silverstein, Radiohead, and much more. Thanks for continued support and for listening!

EPISODE 161 : YOU BETTER NOT POUT

The original idea was that I was going to record 2 episodes during the Christmas holidays. I recorded this one and really enjoyed it. It was recorded on Christmas Eve, 2022. After this was recorded, my holidays kind of got turned on it’s ear. My dad got pretty sick and I wasn’t able to go home for Christmas. Possibly my first Christmas away from home. I spent it with my friend, Wendi and her family. It was lovely. After that, I had a hectic week of radio where, I recorded 2 installments of my ‘Blues In Hi-Fi’ show, and 2 of my friend, Susan’s great show, ‘Border Radio’, which also airs on KPFT in Houston, TX. I’d told her that I could fill in during the holidays. All went fine, it was just a busy couple weeks. Therefore, I wasn’t able to record my quick follow up to the Christmas Eve podcast. However, fear not: I have already started getting a couple new episodes together to get 2023 rolling. I hope you had a great holidays.

There were all kinds of fun moments in this episode. We hear a huge Herman’s Hermits hit recorded by the original artists, Shinyribs takes us looking at lights in Bossier City, The Jesus & Mary Chain channel Bo Diddley, Leonard Cohen accepts the will of the higher being, the Five Sharps do a stirring version of ‘Stormy Weather’, the Seeds tell us about the Flower Lady and her assistant, The Doors Christmas album package is here, and Ray LaMontangue makes a needed appearance from a record I can’t stop playing. Plus, much more. Thank you for continued listening and support. New episodes should be along shortly. Happy New Year!

EPISODE 162 : LIFE IN REALTIME

The RETURN of something. It has been several months since I’ve been able to get a couple of episodes focused on and recorded. Welcome to the first episode of 2023. The last episode was recorded around New Year’s. It is so nice to get back into the seat here on the podcast. I really enjoyed curating this unique podcast. It feels so nice to get back to the weird and unforeseeable. Listen for Son Volt, The Ron-Dels, Bill Hicks, The Delmore Brothers, The Primitives, Junior Wells, and much more. Climb back on and see if the horizon sounds the same. Welcome back to the A Day In The Life Podcast, 2023!

EPISODE 163 : REAL : IN A LIFETIME

About a week later, and the podcast moves forward! Hear me wax philosophically about Record Store Day, pay tribute to a recently deceased aunt, and play all kinds of random tracks that one might expect from this podcast. Listen for some unfinished work by Alex Chilton. Produced by Chris Bell. I also play and talk about Arthur Alexander, we hear Eddie Shuler’s All Star Reveliers, Gene Vincent & His Blue Caps, Ras G, and a 1958 film starring the King. Thanks for your continued support and for listening! As it used to say on the Tonight Show: MORE TO COME!

EPISODE 164 : HEARDING CATS

Sometimes when I get the opening rolling and the first 3 minutes of the episode begins, I get nervous. It still happens. I'm so glad it does. It's been said that such things signal a great care for something. That "something" remains this podcast. I've been trying to get schedules jiving to where I could get episodes worked on and posted more frequently. The struggle is real, but I think I am getting it figured out a bit more.

At any rate, thanks for returning with me here. I thoroughly enjoyed recording #164-65. Both recorded after a day of work. It just goes to show you; when one does something they love, it is no chore, and it's not really work. It's not considered to be, anyway. My wish is that this podcast is pleasure on your side as much as mine.

Lots gets covered here. I've been dating Tiffany for several months now. Therefore, the cat and the dog have become part of my environment. I wouldn't have it any other way. This episode takes a loving nod at the 4 legged, whiskered pets that we love so much. Cats are interesting. They can be, anyway.

Listen close for Beachwood Sparks, Aidan Smith, The Fugs, Sean Na Na, 2 songs from the Old 97's, Hop Wilson, and much, much more!

EPISODE 165 : DOG WHISPERING

The weirdness continues! This episode comes on the heels of #164! This time, I start with a loving nod to Dogs. So much has been written about dogs. Even in song form. Therefore, I had to treat our cold-nosed friends to an opening set, too!

Much is here for the unpacking. Listen for Terminator X, Nu Shooz, Tom Waits, Fred Astaire, Bob Dorough, Judas Priest, 13th Floor Elevators, Marmalade, The Cramps, and SO much more! Crawl into this world and spend 80 minutes or so!

EPISODE 166 : Norman Nomad Gets Stopped At The Border

Time to pull up a new episode of your favorite music podcast! This episode is a lot of fun. I start things off with a bizarre conversation/argument between G. Gordon Liddy and Dr. Timothy Leary. I have no idea of what the circumstances were to bring these two together, but it’s a fascinating exchange. Or, at least, I think it is.

Also included, is a mild rant about how those who clap to emphasize their story in conversation, tend to tap dance on my nerves. Musically, we hear from Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile, The Moody Blues, Judy Garland, The Oscar Peterson Trio, Gary Numan, Patti Smith, The Meters and MUCH MORE!

I always enjoy doing episodes of the podcast. It is truly something that tends to reflect who I am more than some of my other endeavors. Sorry about that…Or, you’re welcome. However that works. Lol. Thanks for listening and for continuing to return to the website!

The second episode in one recording session. Thanks for listening. There is much going on in this episode. We begin in Detroit. The first set of music is Detroit “soaked”… I pay tribute to a true Canadian artist who wrote songs that the entire world has celebrated and have become part of the fabric of the American Songbook.

A story surfaces from a dear friend which details an attempt at high school level indie radio… I’d like to thank Brian Distefano for his contribution to this episode.

We also hear from Elvis Costello, The Nightcaps, Dream Academy, Dreams So Real, The White Stripes, Marvin Gaye, Henry Rollins With Bad Brains, and MUCH MORE!

Thank you for continued support and for listening!
